The New York Knicks will shoot for a commanding 2-0 lead over the Detroit Pistons in Monday’s Game 2 of their Eastern Conference playoff series at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks drew first blood on Saturday behind a 21-0 run that blew a close game apart in the fourth quarter. Jalen Brunson recorded a game-high 34 points and 8 assists, while Karl Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby each tallied 23 points to lead the charge for the Knicks, who converted 52.7 percent of their field goal attempts
Making their postseason appearance since 2019, the young Pistons got a taste of playoff basketball when they got caught in the Knicks’ fourth quarter rampage. Now, it’s time for them to regroup and plan a new set of tactics to steal a game at MSG before the series shifts to Little Caesars Arena. Cade Cunningham impressed in his postseason debut, recorded 21 points, 12 assists and 6 rebounds. He also got solid contributions from his veteran teammates such as Tobias Harris (25 points), Malik Beasley (20 points) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (19 points).

I am not yet losing faith in the Pistons. They had played well for 38 minutes before the Knicks pulled off one of their best rallies this season. In Game 2, the Pistons will come into the MSG as a well-prepared team, bringing the lesson of their Game 1 collapse. The Pistons would need another big night from Cade Cunningham and veterans such as Malik Beasley, Tobias Harris, and Tim Hardaway Jr. to get them a chance to upset the Knicks on their home floor. They also need to pull the Knicks under 50 percent field goal shooting and devise schemes to keep Jalen Brunson from dropping another 30-point game. Game 2 will be an all-out battle with plenty of lead changes and momentum swings. The Pistons had beaten the Knicks 3 out of 4 times in the regular season, and I think they can give the No.3 seed a tough test in this first-round series.
