The Denver Nuggets are poised to clear a -5.5-point handicap in Game 6 of their Western Conference first-round series with the short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves.
Momentum: The Timberwolves face a must-win situation in Game 6 of their Western Conference first-round series with the Nuggets.
After seizing a commanding 3-1 lead, the short-handed Wolves fell to the Nuggets, 113-125, in Game 5, clearly missing the explosive offense from their injured star Anthony Edwards.
As for the Nuggets, they are in a terrific spot to force a Game 7. They will continue to exploit the void left by Edwards, who cannot only provide instant offense but also solid defensive coverage on Jamal Murray and other Nuggets’ guards.
The Matchup: Denver is 2-4 in its last 6 meetings against Minnesota and 5-10 in their last 15 head-to-head meetings. The Wolves are 5-2 in their last five home games against the Nuggets. This includes victories in Game 3 (113-96) and Game 4 (112-96).
Hot on the Board: The Nuggets are the favorites at -225 because they have the momentum and a much healthier roster. Despite their strong record at home against the Nuggets, the Wolves still opened at +188 on the moneyline and -106 with a +5.5-game boost on the spread line. The total has been lowered for the fourth time in this series, pegging at over/under 224.5 points from 225.5 points in Game 5.

Our Minnesota Timberwolves vs Denver Nuggets Prediction
The Nuggets are the no-brainer pick to win and cover the spread in Game 6 against the Wolves. Without their starting backcourt of Donte DiVincenzo and Anthony Edwards, the Wolves don’t possess enough firepower to outscore these run-and-gun Nuggets.
The Wolves will remain a strong defensive team because they still have defensive stalwarts Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels.
Ayo Dosunmu will still put up respectable numbers across the board, especially now that he has fully assumed the starting guard role from DiVincenzo, though the Nuggets will never let him drop 40+ points again in this series.
Julius Randle will continue to lead this team as much as he can without his co-star. But again, without Ant-Man, the Wolves have been reduced from a legit playoff threat to a decent squad without a superstar.
Never mind that the Nuggets are 1-6 in their last seven games on the road. Denver, powered by Jokic and Murray, will blow out again Minnesota and force a Game 7 in Mile High.
Our betting prediction for the Denver Nuggets vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves: The Nuggets -5.5 points
