The Golden State Warriors look to push their winning streak to eight games as they begin their three-game home stand against one of the best teams in the West, the Denver Nuggets, at Chase Center on Monday.
The Warriors continue to rise in the West, having won 14 of their last 16 games since acquiring Jimmy Butler III in a midseason trade with the Miami Heat. Butler’s arrival in the Bay Area has improved Golden State’s defense while giving the team another player outside Stephen Curry who can take over in clutch situations. Of course, the two-time MVP remains the focal point of their offense. In their recent win over the New York Knicks 97-94, Curry overcame a poor shooting night (8-for-20 from the field and 4-for-3 from three-point range) to finish with a team-high 28 points, powering the Warriors to their seventh straight win.
The Nuggets’ form has dipped a bit in their last five games, where they have gone 2-3. Denver squandered another winnable game against the Wizards on Saturday, taking another loss from the cellar-dwelling East squad, 123-126. Nikola Jokic put up 40 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists, while Jamal Murray, Russell Westbrook and Michael Porter Jr. all scored 20+ each. Despite the stellar individual effort from these four players, the Nuggets could still not outgun the Wizards’ red-hot offense led by their rookie Alexander Sarr, who finished with 34 points on 12-for-28 shooting.

The Warriors are rolling, and I don’t even think the Nuggets can stop this winning run. This version of Golden State is scrappy and more complete than in the first half of the season, showing some semblance of the team that won the 2022 NBA championship.
Meanwhile, the Nuggets have been inconsistent since posting that 9-game win streak in February. Nikola Jokic is chalking up MVP-type numbers consistently, but his individual brilliance isn’t helping his team rattle off a long win steak.
Denver has also been poor against the spread in the past three weeks, going 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games. The Warriors lost to the Nuggets 115-119, but I feel they will get their revenge in a big way behind another massive game from Stephen Curry and some two-way help from Jimmy Butler.
