The Denver Broncos (9-5 SU, 11-3 ATS) visit the Los Angeles Chargers (8-6 SU, 9-5 ATS) with both teams looking to nail down a playoff spot. The Broncos are in complete control of their destiny, as one more win will put them beyond the reach of Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Miami. The Chargers need a bit more help to clinch a spot in Week 16. One win puts them beyond the reach of Cincinnati, but Indianapolis and Miami could still win a tiebreaker. If the Chargers win Thursday and both the Colts and Dolphins lose, Los Angeles is safe.
Both teams have seeding to worry about as well. There’s a massive difference between sixth and seventh, as sixth place would get a challenging but winnable game with either Pittsburgh or Baltimore, while seventh would have to try to win in Buffalo. Given that the Bills are now winners in eight of their past nine games, a trip to western New York is something both teams badly want to avoid in round one.

The biggest question with the Broncos is how much of their win streak has been because of their own talents and how much was because of the schedule. Beating Las Vegas and Cleveland barely moves the needle, while Atlanta and Indianapolis both imploded. As such, it’s difficult to get a gauge on whether the Broncos are really a good team or just beating the lesser half of the NFL.
The Chargers had an easy time of it in Denver because Patrick Surtain II got concussed on the Chargers’ first offensive snap of the game and the Broncos spotted Los Angeles a 20-0 lead by turning over two of their first four possessions and punting on the other two. Denver’s offense seems to be looking much stronger since that game and shouldn’t be as intimidated as it was in the first game. The Chargers just faced an offense that wasn’t the slightest bit intimidated in Tampa Bay and got blasted, giving up 40 points to the Buccaneers. With Denver starting to click, the advantage lies with the visitors. Our prediction for Denver vs. Los Angeles is Broncos +3.
