In Port of Spain, the Concacaf Champions League continues when Trinidad and Tobago's Defence Force takes on the newly crowned MLS Supporters' Shield champions, the Philadelphia Union.
This is also a historic matchup, marking the first time Defence Force has faced an MLS club and the first time the Philadelphia Union has played against a Trinidadian team. Defence Force is enjoying a blistering run in their country's top division, leading the table and winning nine of their last ten matches. After Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic eliminated them in the last edition, they are back in the Concacaf Champions League. Defence Force is a modest team, but with a respectable history; they won the Concacaf Champions League twice, in 1978 and 1985, the only team from Trinidad and Tobago to achieve this feat.
Philadelphia Union, for its part, has undertaken five friendly matches in 2026 while awaiting the MLS restart, scheduled for February 21. They were dominant in the last MLS season, finishing first in the Eastern Conference, having scored 57 goals in 34 matches.

Our Defence Force FC vs Philadelphia Union Prediction
The last time Philadelphia Union played in the first round of this tournament, in 2024, they managed to eliminate Deportivo Saprissa in a tie that was a true goal fest, ending 6-5 on aggregate.
Another revealing fact is that Philadelphia Union has never lost its opening match in the three previous editions, and MLS teams have historically dominated Trinidad and Tobago. Another American team in the Concacaf Champions League, San Diego FC, has already advanced past Pumas, and we expect Philadelphia Union to do the same.
Our prediction for Defence Force vs Philadelphia Union is: Philadelphia Union -1.5.
