Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine vies for her second semifinal appearance in two weeks as she goes up against Alexandra Eala of the Philippines in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Eastbourne International on Thursday.
Yastremska is now 6-1 on grass following her 6-2, 6-1 win over Francesca Jones of Great Britain on Wednesday. Yastremska, who finished runner-up to McCartney Kessler at Nottingham, blasted the young Brit with a barrage of forehand winners, scoring 28 points off her first serves and breaking Jones six times.
Eala earned her second career win over Jelena Ostapenko after the former French Open champion retired 0-6 6-2 3-2 while trailing in the third set. It was a test-of-character win for the Philippines’ No.1 singles player, who got bagelled by Ostapenko 0-6 in the first set but still found the resilience to fight back and force the match into a deciding set, where she got the better of her hobbling opponent. Eala has now won four consecutive matches, including two from the qualifiers, which has sent her to her first grass-court quarterfinal appearance on the WTA Main Tour.
