Danielle Collins vs Jaqueline Cristian Prediction & Picks - WTA US Open

At the start of this week, American fans will have the chance to cheer on 31-year-old local player Danielle Collins as she takes on 27-year-old Romanian Jaqueline Cristian in an attempt to qualify for the second round of the US Open. 

Danielle Collins has often had mixed seasons in her career, alternating between seasons where she is a member of the top 20 and others where she drops out of the top 50 completely. Accustomed to these situations, this does not seem to really impact the American's Grand Slam performances. In fact, despite winning only one of her four matches played on hard courts this summer, Collins managed to reach the third round at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season. 

Jaqueline Cristian, meanwhile, reached the round of 16 in Montreal last month before losing in the first round in Cincinnati and Monterrey. With poor performances in major hard court tournaments this year, her main success came in March when she won the Puerto Vallarta Challenger title against world number 152 Linda Fruhvirtova. Unaccustomed to Grand Slams, a victory in this first round seems very difficult.
