Danielle Rose Collins gears up for a big challenge on Saturday as she locks horns with defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round of the 2025 Italian Open.
Collins rolled into the third round with a surgical victory over Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania 6-3 6-3. The win improves Collins’ 2025 clay-court record to 4-1, but more importantly, gives her a shot at beating Iga Swiatek, who has yet to win a title since ruling the French Open last year.
Speaking of Swiatek, the former world’s No.1 continues to come up short in important tournaments this year, even failing to defend her titles at Indian Wells and Madrid. As a result, Swiatek is in danger of dropping outside of the WTA Top-5 if she crashes out again early in Rome.
