Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings will try to get their first win of the season Wednesday night in a rematch of their season opener vs. the Minnesota Lynx. Fans can follow the action once the game gets underway at 8 p.m. EST.
Dallas was competitive vs. the Lynx in the season opener despite losing by 15 points, 99-84. They led by two after the first and went into the half with the game tied. But a disastrous third quarter did them in; Minnesota outscored them 35-20. They were competitive against Seattle, too. Like the loss to the Lynx, one terrible quarter did them in; the Storm outscored them 31-15 in the second. As for Minnesota, they have looked like a team intent on getting back to the WNBA Finals. Napheesa Collier is back in the thick of the hunt for MVP after putting up 34 on Minnesota and 23 on Seattle. However, with how their schedule looks, we may not get a sense of just how good they are until they face the Las Vegas Aces at home on June 17.
Collier (28.5 ppg) is one of four players averaging in double digits for the Lynx at this early stage of the season. Courtney Williams is averaging 19 ppg, followed by Alanna Smith with 18 and Jessica Shepard with 13. Paige Bueckers (14.5 ppg) had a better outing in her second game (vs. Seattle), leading the team in scoring with 19 points. Arike Ogunbowale (12 ppg) and Maddy Siegrist (11.5 ppg) are also averaging in double digits.,

Dallas was a solid offensive team that couldn’t play a lick of defense last season, and from what we’ve seen this season, that may be true once again this year (for now). I’d expect/hope the Wings put up a better fight this time, but I’m not confident they’re ready to. The Lynx should easily win this one and cover the 9.5-point spread, especially at home. But I think there’s a better chance the OVER hits.
