The Dallas Stars (62-25-11 SU, 44-54 ATS) attempt to put the Edmonton Oilers (58-32-7 SU, 42-55 ATS) in a tight spot by sweeping the two games in Alberta. The teams have completely neutralized each other on special teams in this series, as neither has scored either a power play goal or a shorthanded marker in three games.
That favors Dallas in a big way. The Oilers led all playoff teams in power play goals going into this series, but their previous series with Vancouver exposed how they struggle to win 5-on-5 matchups. If the goaltending struggles the way it did in Game 3, it’s difficult to see the Oilers making a run in this series. Even playing at home didn’t help; Edmonton gave up as many goals in one game on home ice as it did in two games in Dallas.

Our Edmonton Oilers vs Dallas Stars Prediction
Edmonton continues to point to its penalty kill as a point of pride, but that rings hollow when Dallas is doing the same thing. The Stars have never had an issue winning games 5-on-5; they knew coming in that their biggest issue was whether they could stop the Oilers from getting power play goals.
So far, they’ve done that. Edmonton thought that it would see an uptick in whistles when playing at home, but that has not occurred. The Oil haven’t had much luck at all getting Dallas to take penalties, and they don’t seem to have a workable plan B. When the Oilers don’t have the power play working at its usual efficiency, it’s very difficult for them to match the depth of skilled teams like Dallas. The Stars run out multiple quality lines, which outweighs Edmonton’s one star line. Because of that depth, our prediction for Dallas vs. Edmonton is for the Stars to win.
