The New Orleans Pelicans (22-46, 13-21 Home) will try to get back on track when they host the Dallas Mavericks (23-45, 9-24 Away) tonight at the Smoothie King Center. Fans can follow the action on NBA League Pass once the game gets underway at 8 p.m. EST.
New Orleans had won two in a row at home before heading to Houston for a game against the Rockets on Friday night. It looked like they might make it three in a row when they pulled ahead 104-100 late in the fourth quarter. But the Rockets went on a 7-1 run to end the game and steal the win right out from under them. As for the Mavericks, they faced the Cleveland Cavaliers at home on Friday and lost 138-105, then turned around and faced the Cavs again on Sunday, this time in Cleveland. This time it was Dallas that came out ahead, winning a shootout, 130-120.
This will be the fourth of four scheduled games between the Pelicans and Mavericks this season. New Orleans won the first early in the season (Nov. 5) in Dallas, 101-99. A few weeks later (Nov. 21), they played again in Dallas, but this time the Mavericks won, 118-115. They last played on Dec. 22 in New Orleans, a game which the Pelicans won 119-113.

Expecting a losing team like the Pelicans to beat someone by 8.5 points almost seems like asking too much. But then again, they are facing a banged-up Dallas team that is 2-9 in its last 11 games and has won just 9 road games this season. New Orleans has not been favored much this season, but in the four games where they were 6+ point favorites, they covered in all four. They’ve been solid ATS at home while the Mavericks have been anything but on the road. It’s a big spread for them to cover, but Dallas has struggled too much on the road for me to think they could stay within eight.
