After both teams played on Saturday, December 20, the Mavericks and Pelicans face off on Monday at the Smoothie King Center in what is considered the most evenly matched of the seven NBA games scheduled to kick off Christmas week.
The Pelicans finally climbed out of last place in the conference, and December brought them what has been their best stretch of the season so far, winning four straight games against the Blazers, Bulls, Rockets, and most recently, the Pacers. Against Indiana, New Orleans scored 44 points in the first quarter, a lead they maintained until securing a 128-109 victory. Zion Williamson tied his season high of 29 points, coming off the bench for the third consecutive game.
Meanwhile, the Mavs could do little to stop Tyrese Maxey's 38-point performance, which led the 76ers to a 121-114 win over Dallas. The Mavs made 12 of 22 free throws, a positive highlight, but this, along with Anthony Davis's 24 points, wasn't enough to prevent Saturday's loss.
