The Vancouver Whitecaps kick off their campaign for the 2026 season. After a highly successful year, the Canadian powerhouse made some epic signings, including Muller, in the same year they reached the Concacaf Champions League final and the MLS playoffs, though they were disappointed to lose both finals, one against Mexico's Cruz Azul and the other against Inter Miami.
The Whitecaps will face Cartaginés, with the first leg scheduled for Wednesday in Costa Rica, before the return leg in Canada on February 25. The Whitecaps have previous experience eliminating Central American clubs; for example, they crushed Honduras' Real España in 2023 and eliminated Saprissa in 2025.
Cartaginés won the MLS Cup in 1995, while Vancouver's MLS season doesn't start until several weeks from now. The Costa Rican team has already played seven matches in the Costa Rican Clausura tournament; they are currently in second place after losing by a single goal against the current leader, Herediano.

Our CS Cartagines vs Vancouver Whitecaps Prediction
The Vancouver Whitecaps' last Concacaf Champions League campaign was full of memorable moments. Despite losing the final 0-5 in Mexico City, Vancouver eliminated some heavyweights, including Messi's Inter Miami in the semifinals, and before that, defeated Pumas and another Mexican soccer giant, Monterrey.
Therefore, the MLS team has a good chance of taking all three points against Cartaginés. Also, because it is the first game of the season for the Canadian team, its odds at sportsbooks offer fair value.
Our prediction for Vancouver Whitecaps vs Cartagines is: Vancouver Whitecaps to win.
