Manchester City face Crystal Palace in their first away English Premier League match of the season. Palace has often been a tricky opponent for Man City in recent seasons, but Enzo Maresca's side will head to Selhurst Park full of confidence after a last-gasp victory over Bournemouth on the opening day. There's been huge personnel changes at both clubs over the summer which makes this fixture particularly intriguing. Alongside changes in players, both clubs have new managers. The aforementioned Maresca has taken over from the legendary Pep Guardiola at the Blues. Maresca certainly raised a few eyebrows with his starting lineup against the Cherries at the weekend, it's likely he'll start this one with a similar XI. Pierre Sage has taken over at the Eagles, but got off to a losing start as his side went down 2-0 away at Everton in their opener.
While Palace has been a difficult opponent in terms of inflicting damage on the Blues, it's City who has the better recent head-to-head record. Of the last six matches between the two sides, City has won four of them. The only defeat in that run, albeit a heartbreaking one, that City suffered at the hands of the Eagles came in the English FA Cup Final in 2025. Since then, City has won the last two meetings 3-0, including the last time these two sides met in South London. There'll be calls for Rayan Cherki to start this one for City, but Maresca might again opt for a more defensive lineup. This match is likely to come too soon for the injured Jeremy Doku and new signing Ayyoub Bouaddi. As for Palace, Pierre Sage is likely to start with the same lineup as he did in the Everton defeat, although there's huge rumors surrounding the future of Jean-Philippe Mateta. If Mateta doesn't start, expect to see Jorgen Strand Larsen in the number 9 position.
Crystal Palace away is a notoriously tricky tie for any EPL team. Man City are favorites to win, but it's honestly a game that could go either way. So, for our prediction, we're looking at the Total Goals market and think they'll be over 2.5 goals in this one.
