Will the Real Coco Gauff show up on Saturday? This is the pressing question that Gauff needs to answer in her upcoming duel with Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko in the fourth round of the 2025 Canadian Open.
Gauff barely reached the round of 16 in Montreal after surviving another three-set match with Veronika Kudermetova of Russia 4-6 7-5 6-2. The world’s No.2 and reigning French Open champion was hampered by another start but managed to grind out the win by digging deep and coming through with the big points at the clutch. Gauff connected 61 percent of her first serves, winning 44 points off these serves. She also shattered Kudermetova’s serves five times, including two in the deciding set.
Mboko moved one win away from her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal stint. But standing in her way was none other than the French Open champion and old tormentor, Coco Gauff. Mboko sealed her spot in the third round of the 2025 Canadian Open with a three-set win over Marie Bouzkova 1-6 6-3 6-0. The teenager also posted strong wins over Kimberly Birrell of Australia 7-5 6-3 and Sofia Kenin of the United States 6-2 6-3 in the first two rounds.
