Coco Gauff of the United States will attempt to barge into the fourth round of the 2025 Italian Open as she goes up against Magda Linette of Poland on Saturday.
Gauff dodged a bullet in her second-round clash with Victoria Mboko of Canada. The Madrid Open runner-up surprisingly squandered the first set but fought back strong in the next two sets to carve out 3-6 6-2 6-1 win over the promising Canadian. Despite winning 52 percent of her first serves and committing 8 double faults, Gauff gutted out the win by capturing 9 break points off the back of 47 return points.
Linette moved on to the third round after she exacted her revenge on Maria Sakkari two weeks after losing the Greek in Madrid. Linette displayed mental toughness to overcome another slow start, rallying from a 1-6 loss in the first set to complete a 1-6 6-4 6-1 win over Sakkari. The Pole made the comeback possible by winning 32 points off her first serves and seizing four breakpoint conversions.
