The San Francisco Giants will try to stay in the thick of a fight for National League West superiority as they host division rivals Colorado Rockies for a four-game weekend series starting Thursday at Oracle Park.
The Giants conceded the No.1 spot in the NL West this week after absorbing back-to-back losses to the San Diego Padres. San Francisco, who boasts a solid 3.66 ERA, allowed more than four runs to the offensively struggling Padres in both games. Moreover, the Giants could also not get their things goings on offense with Wilmer Flores batting 0 for 8 vs. the Padres.
The Rockies arrested their losing streak at 8 games after holding on to a 1-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Sean Bouchard drew first blood with a grounder in the second inning while Brenton Doyle blasted the go-ahead solo homer in the third inning. Chase Dollander delivered a strong outing on the bump, giving up only one earned run and two hits in 5.2 innings.
