The Cincinnati Reds will face the Colorado Rockies in the first game of a weekend series today at Great America Ballpark. Fans can follow the action when the game gets underway at 7:10 p.m. EST.
Cincinnati is coming off a four-game home series vs. the Miami Marlins. They dropped the first two, 5-1 and 12-2, but rallied and won the final two in convincing form, 7-2 and 6-0. Colorado got swept in a three-game series vs. the Red Sox, 9-3, 10-2, and 10-2.
The Rockies will give German Marquez the ball to start the day. Marquez has gone 10-3 in 18 starts with a 5.84 ERA, a 1.62 WHIP, and teams are hitting .311 against him. His numbers get a little worse when you look at how he has played on the road. In 11 road starts, he has gone 2-4 with a 6.48 ERA, and teams are hitting .324 against him. Chase Burns is scheduled to start for the Reds. Burns has only appeared in three games this season, but has gone 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, and .302 OBA. This will be just his second start at home. The first was vs. the Yankees; he went five innings and gave up six hits (one home run), three earned runs, eight strikeouts, and two walks.

My first thought was to go with the OVER since both pitchers are awful and should get hit early and often. Neither team has been hitting well over the last week, but if there is ever going to be a pair of pitchers, each lineup should wake up against…Marquez did have a sub-3.0 ERA for June, but then gave up six earned runs in his first start in July. There may be a greater chance Burns can turn in a solid outing; he gave up one earned run in his last start (4 2/3 innings, two hits, four walks, seven strikeouts).
Neither team has a lot going for it, but the Reds are a solid home team, and the Rockies are terrible on the road.
