The Colorado Rapids are back in business on Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes after securing the maximum haul against New York City on the road. Colorado is 5th in the Western Conference after winning 3 of their last 4 games on the bounce. San Jose, meanwhile, finds themselves down all the way at the bottom of the Western Conference with only 7 points to show for themselves through their first 11 games. Part of their troubles can be attributed to a porous back line that has allowed a league-worst 26 goals. Their struggles were put to bed for a moment last weekend, however, in a 3-1 California derby win over LAFC. San Jose will be participating in the US Open Cup this year, and as a result, will face Oakland Roots SC in the Round of 32. Oakland Roots is a 4th-tier club in the USL League Two, but San Jose will still have to suit up and play if they want to win. This may lead into the Rapids’ hands, as the Earthquakes will be more depleted headed into an away match at altitude.
