The battle for supremacy in Group K will go down to the wire on Saturday night, when Colombia and Portugal lock horns in Miami Gardens.
Following their win against DR Congo, the Colombians are in the driving seat and need just a point from this game to proceed as group winners. The Portuguese cannot top the group by taking just a point, so they must win, and if they do, they will advance in first spot, leaving plenty for both teams to fight for.
Given what we’ve seen from these two teams over the first two rounds of group games, the Colombians don’t appear to be getting the respect that they deserve, so much so that a bet on ‘Colombia +1 Handicap’ stands out as a value play at odds of -105.

Colombia - Portugal: Form Analysis

So far, so good as far as Los Cafeteros are concerned. The men in yellow, who bring chaos and flamboyancy to the field in equal measure, have impressed since getting down to business at this World Cup, beating Uzbekistan by three goals to one, before beating DR Congo by a goal to zero, delivering a performance that warranted a more commanding scoreline. After those two strong efforts, Néstor Gabriel Lorenzo’s men should fancy themselves to make life very hard for a Portugal team that is yet to fully convince.

Sure, the Portuguese, after delivering a modest (at best) effort when tying 1-1 with DR Congo during the first round of group games, improved to get themselves up and running last time out, beating Uzbekistan by five goals to zero. They could’ve won by a larger margin, though they also gave up a few too many counter-offensive opportunities and could’ve easily conceded, which is a little worrying ahead of a game against much better opposition.

Colombia & Portugal Squad Analysis
Following what was a far more pleasing display than the 1-0 scoreline suggests, the Colombians should stick with the team that started the last game. It would be a surprise if Néstor Gabriel Lorenzo made many changes, especially as he has a sizable chance of masterminding a first-place finish in Group K. Jhon Lucumi, who is one yellow away from a suspension could be protected, while the mercurial and hugely creative Juan Quintero could start after assisting the winner as a substitute last time out.
Both Trincaco and Rafa Leao had positive impacts after coming on against Uzbekistan, though both look booked for places on the bench again.
Will the Portuguese make changes here? Probably not. The much-talked-about form of veteran forward Cristiano Ronaldo improved last time out, with the 40-year-old netting a brace, and he will once again lead the attack. Both Trincaco and Rafa Leao had positive impacts after coming on against Uzbekistan, though both look booked for places on the bench again.

Our Colombia vs Portugal Prediction
Quite frankly, this looks like a slightly better opportunity for the Colombians to get the positive result that they need to secure top spot than the early odds would suggest. Therefore, betting on ‘Colombia +1 Handicap’ at odds of -105 appeals.
After all, they’ve delivered the best performances in the group so far, while they have just the sort of team to benefit on the break against what looks like a shaky Portuguese defense.
Our Colombia vs Portugal Pick: Colombia +1 Handicap.
