Neither team was supposed to play in the first round of the CFP. Texas was supposed to beat Georgia in the SEC title game to secure a spot in the top four, and Clemson was supposed to lose to SMU in the ACC title game. But neither outcome happened, so the Tigers will descend on Austin, TX, to face the Longhorns at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on TNT and stream on Max.
Georgia has laid out an easy blueprint for defeating Texas—stop the run. The Longhorns averaged 164.4 yards per game this season but gained just 29 and 31 vs. the Bulldogs. When Texas can establish the run, it becomes much easier for Quinn Ewers to get the passing game on track. However, while the Longhorns must establish the run, the same is true for Clemson. But no one has averaged more than five yards per carry against the Longhorns' defense. However, the X factor in this game could very well be turnovers. Clemson has forced 12 in the last five.
As for Texas, the Longhorns had seven in their last three games, including two interceptions and a fumble vs. Georgia in the SEC title game.

Texas is expected to roll in this game, which could be a problem for the Longhorns. After gearing up for a first-round bye, they now have to make sure they start thinking about how to beat Arizona State. If they fail to take Clemson seriously, Texas could certainly get upset. But if they come out focused on the task at hand, it could be a long day for the Tigers. That is unless turnovers become an issue for the Longhorns, as they were against Georgia in the SEC title game. Clemson's offense is good enough to make Texas pay for any such mistakes.
I expect Texas to win, but I don't think the game will be a blowout.
