The Cincinnati Bengals (0-3 SU, 1-2 ATS) visit the Carolina Panthers (1-2 SU, 1-2 ATS) in a game that serves as kind of a last chance for the Bengals. Cincinnati is now in real peril of missing the playoff race before it ever gets started, mainly because of its traditionally poor Septembers. But with the Bengals now setting themselves up with a deep hole, they might already be out of time.
Carolina came up with a huge performance against the Raiders, which suggested that Andy Dalton might actually be an answer after all. The Panthers had looked completely helpless through the first two games as Bryce Young struggled to learn how to make things click. While this serves as a great argument for letting a young quarterback watch and learn his first year, that’s not the point for this game. Dalton, if he can play like he did last week, does give Carolina a chance to win.

It’s still tough to trust the Panthers, even after last week’s rout. Although Dalton played well and lifted Carolina to a win, the Panthers still have a lot of holes throughout their team. Things did not get fixed overnight by changing one player; the Raiders simply played poorly against the pass.
Cincinnati defends the pass well and should be a far more desperate team. The Bengals know that they have essentially kicked away any kind of margin for error they might have had, and they’ve got to come out with their best effort. It doesn’t hurt that Carolina remains the weakest team on Cincinnati’s schedule The Panthers were probably a good candidate for 0-17, and now that that won’t happen, the pressure should be off a bit.
