The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox look to open the second half of the season on strong note as they clash in a three-game weekend series starting on Friday at PNC Park.
The Pirates edged the Minnesota Twins 2-1 to snap an eight-game losing streak and finish the first half of the season with a 39-58 record. In their last five games, Pittsburgh has struggled to produce solid numbers behind the plate and on the mound, pitching a 4.79 ERA and averaging 2.6 runs per game on a .224 batting average.
Similar to the Pirates, the White Sox will begin the second half of the season as the worst team in their division. Chicago are 32-65 in their division, trailing the No.4 team in the AL Central, the 46-49 Cleveland Guardians, by 13 games. The White Sox have posted a respectable 3.68 ERA in their last five games, but their atrocious .176 batting average with 3.1 runs per game over the stretch has prevented Chicago from winning close games.
