Two skidding teams get a chance to regain their groove on Tuesday when the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Guardians open their three-game series at Progressive Field.
After a 2-2 start, the White Sox have dropped to 2-7 after losing their last five assignments. The White Sox will enter the series vs. the Guardians ranking in the bottom quadrant in batting average (.211), on base percentage (.273), slugging percentage (.344) and total runs.
The Guardians have lost their last two games and four of their last five, crashing to 3-6 in the season. Cleveland falls in the bottom half of the league in terms of batting average (.221) and total runs (34). I expect the Guardians to bounce back with better results in this series vs. the White Sox. Cleveland is too good of a team to carry a losing record at 3-6 even this early this season. Of course, they were expected to struggle against the San Deigo Padres, but losing two of the three games they played against the Angles over the weekend didn’t help their cause. After allowing four runs vs. the Padres, Ben Lively gets an opportunity to capture his first win against the White Sox, whom he blanked for two innings in September of last year. Moreover, Cleveland has won six of their previous seven meetings with Chicago, winning by at least two runs six times.
