Skubal pitching for the Tigers at Comerica Park has become almost a sure loss for the opposing team. The Cubs knew this going into the first game of the series against the Tigers, but so did the betting sites, which placed the Tigers as favorites at -190 odds. In the end, Detroit won again, with an excellent start from the Cy Young pitcher, who pitched 7.2 innings and struck out 8. The Tigers won Game 1 against the Cubs 3-1, aided by Tolkerson's 15th home run of the season.
With this, the Tigers improved their record to an incredible 22-8 at Comerica Park. But for Game 2, when the pitching duel is between Taillon for the Cubs and Holton for the Tigers, the betting odds are almost even.
Taillon is on an upward trajectory. The veteran Cubs starter pitched 14 straight quality outings from May 14 through June, three of them at Wrigley Field against the Marlins, Rockies, and Reds, and another against the Marlins in Miami. In none of the aforementioned outings did the right-hander allow more than four hits.
