After sweeping the Cardinals in a monster home-run series by Venezuelan third baseman Eugenio Suárez, the Diamondbacks were swept by the Astros in the desert. Although the D-backs are four games out of the wild card, they have three teams ahead of them, and the organization's stance of parting ways with some pieces, such as Josh Naylor, who left for the Mariners, indicates they're positioning themselves as sellers, not buyers, and may be looking ahead to the 2026 season.

Even with that, and with plenty of rumors of teams highly interested in D-backs third baseman Eugenio Suárez, he's still in Arizona and went 0-for-4 in the D-backs' close 1-0 win over the Pirates at PNC Park in the weekend series. With Carroll, Marte, Perdomo, and Suárez as the Pirates' top four hitters, they still maintain their team's core.

Skenes will pitch again on Sunday, and any offensive support the Pirates can give him will surely be better than the pyrrhic one-hit support they gave Burrows in Friday's game. The Pirates are the team that averages the fewest runs per game, but Skenes' presence alone makes Pittsburgh a -155 favorite to win Wednesday's game.
