The Cubs continue to perform like a World Series contender. On Sunday, they snapped a brief slump by winning, but not without scoring 19 runs against the Mariners to salvage the series. Happ and Ramirez both hit grand slams. Following that, on Monday they started their series in the desert in style, shutting out the Diamondbacks 7-0.

Although superstar and MVP candidate Crow-Armstrong had a quiet day, going 0-for-5, it was the bottom of the Cubs' lineup that stepped up. Ramirez, Confroto, and Kelly combined for a combined 5-for-10, and the bottom three of the lineup managed to drive in four of the seven runs. Suzuki drove in another run with his 25th double of the season; Happ also hit an RBI double, and Kelly hit the only home run of the night, a solo shot.

There's just over a month left in the season for the Diamondbacks, who are two games behind the Padres in the wild card race. They closed out their weekend series against the Reds with a 5-3 win, but managed only 5 hits in the first game of their series against the Cubs.
