Vegas Golden Knights and Chicago Blackhawks will start their new NHL season with a clash at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday night. The Golden Knights have a new head coach, Ryan Craig, who will want to get the most out of his proven veterans. He’ll also want to address their goaltending fears, especially if injuries strike. The Golden Knights allowed 250 goals in last season’s regular campaign, finishing with a 15-goal differential. They’re the warm -250 favorites tonight.
The Blackhawks, meanwhile, will enter the 2026/27 season with one of the league's most expensive squad rebuilds still unfinished. They went 29-39-14 last season to finish at the bottom of the Central Division with 72 points. This record saw them miss out on a postseason spot for the sixth straight year. They’ve since bolstered their squad with the addition of Bowen Byram from the Sabres and Patrick Kane from the Red Wings. Kane tallied 16 goals and 41 assists for the Red Wings last season.

But despite the Golden Knights’ offensive shortcomings, they should have an edge tonight due to Chicago’s missing star center, Connor Bedard. The youngster was expected to captain the team this season, although a left shoulder injury will keep him out of action until mid-November. His absence makes it difficult for Chicago to get an upset win tonight.
