Back-to-back Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, begin their 2025-26 campaign on Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks on home ice at the Amerant Bank Arena.
The Panthers kick off their title defense without two key players, as Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk have been ruled out for the start of the season. This forces head coach Paul Maurice to use a new-look top six, which may struggle to find chemistry initially.
The Blackhawks had the second-worst record in the league last season, finishing on 61 points, ahead of only the San Jose Sharks. Following a quiet offseason, things aren't looking great for the team. However, the new generation of players, including the 2023 No. 1 draft pick Connor Bedard, has more experience under their belts and could potentially be ready to take their game to another level.
The roster resembles last year's team quite a bit; however, the Blackhawks have a new man in charge. Jeff Blashill was appointed as the franchise's 42nd head coach during the offseason. He has a lot to prove after his unsuccessful stint with the Detroit Red Wings, where he went 204-262-72 in the regular season.
