by Simon Day in Champions League Picks
One of the biggest games of the Champions League season so far takes place at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, as World Club champions Chelsea face Spanish giants Barcelona in a vital Matchday Five showdown.
Whilst this will be the first Chelsea-Barca encounter for six years, the two teams have met each other in the Champions League a remarkable 12 times in the last 20 years.
The fixture has produced a host of memorable moments over the years, including the astonishing 2012 semi final, when a last minute Fernando Torres goal secured the Blues' path to the final, and the equally incredible 2009 semi final, in which Chelsea were the victims of several contentious refereeing decisions before Andreas Iniesta broke their hearts with an injury-time thunderbolt.
Overall, the teams have met on 14 previous occasions, securing four wins each.

Chelsea - Barcelona: Form Analysis
Chelsea's 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday moved them up to second in the Premier League and means that Enzo Maresca's side have now gone five games unbeaten since the 1-2 defeat at home to Sunderland last month. The Blues' Champions League form has not been quite as impressive, and the disappointing 2-2 draw at Qarabag last time out means they are languishing down in 12th place in the standings, two points outside of the top eight.
Defensive concerns for Barca
Barcelona also had a successful domestic outing at the weekend, as goals from Ferran Torres (2), Robert Lewandowski and Fermin Lopez secured a comfortable 4-0 win over Bilbao. However, that result was Barcelona's first clean sheet in over two months, and doubts persist about whether Hansi Flick's defence is good enough to cause problems for Europe's best teams. Those defensive issues were in full evidence during Barca's last Champions League game, when they conceded three soft goals en route to a thrilling draw at Bruges.

Chelsea & Barcelona Squad Analysis
Wesley Fofana is in contention for a return to the Chelsea starting lineup after missing recent games due to fitness concerns, but Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Levi Colwill and Dario Essugo remain on the sidelines. Andrey Santos impressed at Burnley, but Moises Caicedo is likely to replace him in the Blues' midfield on Tuesday, whilst Reece James looks set to be preferred to Malo Gusto in the right back position.
Rashford set to return
Marcus Rashford missed Saturday's win over Bilbao with an illness, but the England star is now fully fit and is expected to replace Ferran Torres at Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, the in-form Fermín López is likely to be preferred to Dani Olmo in the number 10 role, whilst Alejandro Balde should be fit enough to start at left back, despite leaving Saturday's game with a minor injury.

Our Chelsea vs Barcelona Prediction
Chelsea v Barcelona contests are typically exciting affairs and Tuesday night's game should be no different.
Both teams are flawed defensively, but highly accomplished going forward, so we are confident that the game will produce plenty of goals. Talking of goals, Barca striker Robert Lewandowski is in prime form, his goal against Bilbao took his tally for the season to eight, and we are tipping the Polish legend to add to his tally at Stamford Bridge.
As for picking a winner, there are arguments to be made for both teams, but given their defensive frailties, we think the draw is the smart bet.
Our prediction for Chelsea vs Barcelona is: Draw and Robert Lewandowski to score.
