The 2025 season was a fruitful one for Charlotte, so much so that they reached a respectable Round of 16 before being eliminated by New York City. Charlotte largely retained its core from last year; Zaha remained with the club after activating his contract option, and Pep Biel became a permanent signing after his loan spell. Dean Smith's team is built around these two players and Israeli striker Idan Toklomati, but so far, they have struggled in 2026, managing only 1 out of a possible 6 points.
Charlotte returns to Bank of America Stadium to host Austin FC, but they do so after a dismal performance in Carson, where they were thrashed by LA Galaxy. LA Galaxy's onslaught of three goals in just 13 minutes seemed to overwhelm the defense, particularly Andre Privett. The last of these was a misplaced pass that led to a goal, which certainly dampened any hopes Charlotte had of getting back into the game.
Even so, betting sites believe it's possible they can beat Austin; they have Charlotte as the favorite going into the preseason. It will be their first home game of 2026. Last season, Charlotte was the best home team in the Western Conference, earning 40 points in 17 games.
