Before ending Midtjylland's unbeaten run in the Europa League with a 2-1 victory, Roma had defeated Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox Stadium. Next Thursday, Roma returns to Scotland to face Celtic, another of the country's top clubs, in the same competition.
Roma arrives at Celtic Park with a lengthy injury list and having suffered two defeats in their last two Serie A matches. However, it is Celtic that has faced numerous problems, including protests from their fans due to a lack of investment and poor results. These challenges led to the end of O'Neill's interim tenure last weekend, with Wilfried Nancy, the Frenchman with a proven track record in MLS, taking over. Nancy, however, has already lost his first match in charge, a 1-2 defeat against Hearts.
Celtic has been a regular participant in Europe's top leagues. After a turbulent start that included defeats to Midtjylland and Portuguese side Braga at home, a 3-1 victory over Feyenoord in the Netherlands has given hope that they can cling to qualification. They currently sit in 21st place, three places ahead, but only one point above the relegation zone.
