Club América finally secured a victory in the Liga MX Clausura tournament. They hadn't won in the first three matches, a worrying and uncharacteristic situation for the Eagles, but they managed to defeat Necaxa 2-0 with two goals before halftime from Brian Rodríguez and Davila. Now, América focuses its energy on its debut in the 2026 Concacaf Champions League, which will see them face Olimpia, the reigning Honduran National League champions, in Tegucigalpa on Tuesday.
Olimpia returns to the Concacaf Champions League for the first time since 2023, qualifying as one of the four teams from the 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup. The 29-year-old Honduran striker Jorge Benguche is the man América will have to mark closely on Tuesday; he was the top scorer in the Central American Cup with eight goals for Olimpia.
Clearly, América looks like a much stronger team. Ramón Juárez, América's center back, has proven to be a rock in the back line; he was again in América's recent victory against Necaxa. Talent abounds at América; they have Mexican national team goalkeeper Malagón and the ever-reliable Brian Rodríguez in midfield.
