Casper Ruud is a player that always deserves respect, while we know that he's a player capable of doing very well at Roland Garros. The Norwegian reached the semi-finals of the French Open earlier this season, but this is far from an easy match, so should he really be such a strong favorite? For my money, there are several reasons as to why he should not.
Interestingly, Cerundolo has played nine matches on clay since leaving the grass behind, meaning that he's likely more prepared for big clay-court matches than Ruud, who has played just three clay-court matches since ending his grass-court campaign. That's not all. Cerundolo has been in fantastic form on clay of late, winning the event in Umag last week, beating higher-ranked players. Moreover, he could have a slight mental edge having won three of his last four matches against Ruud. Add everything together and Ruu'd current strong favoritism just doesn't seem right.
