The Chicago Bears will go for their second consecutive win and third of the season when they host the Carolina Panthers at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL, on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on FOX.
Things have not quite gone as either team had hoped, coming into the 2024 NFL season. First-year Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales couldn't have envisioned benching his starting quarterback as quickly as he did, but the results paint a picture of necessity. The offense was terrible under Bryce Young. You'd hope for some improvement for a young quarterback from one year to the next, but it looked like he regressed. So, in comes a veteran in Andy Daton. What does he do in his first start? He completed 26 of 37 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns—and they won!
They were not as fortunate last week against the Bengals, but the offense moved the ball, and the team was competitive.
As for the Bears, their defense has helped make them competitive, while Caleb Williams figures out how to navigate the NFL game. Progress has been made in just four weeks, but there is still plenty of room for growth. However, the Bears still opened as a 5.5-point favorite over the visiting Panthers.
The line has since moved to -4 or -3.5 at most major sportsbook brands.

On the other hand, the Panthers' defense has struggled to slow opponents down (No. 28 total defense) and keep them off the scoreboard (32.3 ppg allowed; last in the NFL). This matchup could become a breakout game for Williams if he can get on the same page with his receivers.
But he will probably not throw downfield enough to take advantage of the Panthers' secondary. Consequently, the game ends up being relatively close.
