Monfils, meanwhile, got the better of Dusan Lajovic in his first match to advance to the second round, where Jordan Thompson awaited him. Trailing by a break in the first set, the Frenchman managed to regain his serve. Monfils even saved a set point on his own serve at 5-4 but ended up losing the set as he was outplayed in the tie-break. the 37-year-old raised his game during the tournament, losing just three games in the next two sets to win 6-7, 6-1, 6-2.
