by Lou Aguila in ATP Shanghai Masters Picks
Terence Atmane of France looks to stay sharp as he resumed his campaign on the Asian swing of the ATP Tour on Wednesday, facing Camilo Ugo Carabeli of Argentina in the first round of the 2025 Shanghai Masters.
Atmane is listed as a heavy favorite at -500 against the 43rd ranked Carabeli, but the Frenchman offers an attractive payout on the spread line, where bettors can win as high a $235 profit per $100 bet.
Current Form:
Atmane arrived in Shanghai looking to build more momentum and collect ATP world ranking following a shortened but promising run in Beijing. The Frenchman picked up three wins at the China Open to reach the second round of the main draw. Atmane downed Fajing Sun 6-4 6-1, Botic Van De Zandschulp 7-6(5) 7-6(7), and Zhang Zhizhen 6-4 6-2 before bowing to Jannik Sinner in three sets 6-4 5-7 6-0 in the second round.
Ugo Carabeli seeks to end a four-match losing streak that began with a second-round loss to Ben Shelton at the Cincinnati Open. Since then, Carabeli has lost his next three opening matches, losing to Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first round of the 2025 US Open 6-3 6-2 6-0, Rinky Hijikata 7-6(2) 6-4 in the Hangzhou Open and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1 6-3 in the China Open. Carabeli is 4-8 in hard-court matches in 2025.

Our Camilo Ugo Carabelli vs Terence Atmane Prediction
Terence Atmane is a solid 28-16 on the hard court in 2025. Against the ATP top-100 this year, the Frenchman carries an impressive 8-5 record, including a 3-2 slate against the ATP Top-50.
Despite the loss to Jannik Sinner in the second round of the China Open, Atmane showed that he can compete and win a set against an elite-level talent. Of course, Sinner dismantled him in the third set 6-0 but Atmane nevertheless proved that he’s no pushover.
Carabeli is on a four-match losing streak. He has no form coming into this tournament and carries a measly 10-17 against the ATP top-100. Honestly, I would be surprised if he wins a set against Atmane because he’s really not in the best shape to compete at an ATP 1000 event. In fact, Atmane at -5.5 Games seems like a pick worth the risk not only because it pays $160 profit for $100 bet but the possibility of the Frenchman posting a dominant win on Wednesday is so real given how bad Carabeli is playing these days.
Our betting prediction for Terence Atmane vs. Camilo Ugo Carabeli: Terence Atmane -5.5 Games
