The BYU Cougars (17-3, 5-2 Big 12) will try to bounce back today from a disappointing loss to No. 1 Arizona when they face the No. 14 Kansas Jayhawks (15-5, 5-2 Big 12) in Lawrence, KS, at the Allen Fieldhouse. Tipoff for this battle between Big 12-ranked teams is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST, with coverage provided by ESPN.
Arizona led the Cougars at halftime, 44-3. BYU hung in during the second half and managed to close the gap to 84-83 with 16 seconds left, but a pair of free throws iced it for the Wildcats. It was just the third loss for BYU this season, second in conference play, and second in their last three games. They fell to Texas Tech a couple of weeks ago, but were less competitive in that game, losing 84-71. As for Kansas, the Jayhawks will take a four-game winning streak into this game that includes a win over then-No. 2 Iowa, 84-63. They haven’t played since last Saturday, getting the week off after beating their in-state rival, Kansas State, 86-62.
When these two teams played last season, BYU owned the day, beating Kansas in incredible fashion, 91-57.
