Japan and Brazil are locked in a do-or-die match on Friday with the winner possibly getting the chance to advance into the quarterfinal round of the Olympic men’s basketball tournament. Japan were one successful defensive stand away from shocking the basketball world as they came close to upsetting host country France last Wednesday. Yuki Kawamura spearheaded the charge for the Samurais, posting 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Rui Hachimura finished with 24 points and knocked down three treys in the closing minutes of regulation. In the end, the Japanese succumbed to France 94-90 in overtime. Meanwhile, the Brazilian lost their first two preliminary games against France 78-66 and Germany 73-86, putting them in danger of not qualifying into the quarterfinal phase of the competition. Brazil has struggled mightily from deep, going 7-for-21 against France and 10-for-26 against Germany.
