Brandon Nakashima has gone 0-for-4 in his first four meetings with Alexander Zverev?
A spread market darling, will Nakashima play good enough to cover the spread once more? Or will he defy all odds to earn his first career win over the world’s No.3?
We will find out the answer at the conclusion of their third-round showdown on Tuesday.
For the second straight time, Nakashima duked it out in a three-set slugfest, though this time, he came out as the victor, beating Alexander Blockx. Nakashima exorcised the ghost of a three-set defeat to Ben Shelton in a hard-fought second-round match in Toronto, 6-7(8) 6-2 7-6(5). Powered by 50 points off the first serves, Nakashima escaped from the fangs of defeat to pull off a gallant comeback win on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Zverev cruised through into the third round with a surgical win over Nishesh Basavareddy, 6-3 6-3. Zverev, a semifinalist at the Canadian Open, asserted his superiority on the serve, winning all serves while firing 12 aces. He also converted all three breakpoint chances on only 14 return points.

Our Brandon Nakashima vs Alexander Zverev Prediction
Alexander Zverev will post a comfortable win over Brandon Nakashima, covering a -3.5-game spread in the process. Zverev held all 9 of his serves in his last match over Nishesh Basavareddy, carrying over his terrific service game in Toronto to Cincinnati. Moreover, Zverev is 4-0 against Nakashima in their head-to-head series, including a most recent win in the quarterfinal of the Boss Stuttgart Open, 7-5 6-4.
No doubt, Nakashima possesses the skills to compete at a high level, but he is a career 1-4 against the ATP top-5 players and 0-5 this year against the top-10 players. Zverev, meanwhile, is 16-5 on the hard court this year and 16-3 against opponents who rank out of the top 20 but still in the top 50.
Nakashima may have to wait for another opportunity to beat Alexander Zverev because I just don't see him winning on Tuesday. Playing great tennis on the hard court again since his run to the finals of the Australian Open, Zverev looks poised to continue his mastery over the American.
Our betting prediction for Brandon Nakashima vs. Alexander Zverev: Alexander Zverev -3.5 Games.
