Could overconfidence have cost the Celtics in Game 2 of their series against the 76ers? It seems so, as Game 1 ended 123-91, but the script took a turn in Game 2 when the Sixers won 111-97, securing home-court advantage. When Jaylen Brown was asked about the loss, he commented that these things happen in the playoffs, where it's crucial not to take anything for granted. The pregame odds still favor the Celtics by 6.5 points as the series shifts to Xfinity Mobile Arena.
For Philadelphia, the usual suspects emerged in Game 2. One was Maxey, who scored 29 points. Rookie VJ Edgecombe played with tremendous ease. He appeared unaffected by the playoff pressure, finishing with 30 points and 10 rebounds. The Sixers made 19 three-pointers, six more than the Celtics, who attempted 50 in Game 2, making only 13.
Despite the Sixers being without Embiid again, this time due to appendicitis, Nick Nurse focused on praising Maxey's leadership, who asked to take the ball in crucial moments of Game 2. Andre Drummond had nothing but praise for Edgecombe, saying he hadn't seen someone so reliable play in a long time.

Derrick White had a dismal Game 2, shooting just 3-for-12 from the field. Such poor shooting is unwelcome in games like this. However, Pritchard and Sam Hauser also had equally bad nights. There's not much more to look for to understand the reasons for the loss at TD Garden.
It will be interesting to see what happens, but these Sixers seem to have just the right pieces on the court, and some of them are playing well individually, to at least prevent the Celtics from running all over them. The 76ers handicap looks like the right bet.
