The 38-31-11 Washington Capitals will host the 47-18-15 Boston Bruins on Monday. There is still a faint chance of Boston winning the President's Trophy for the second consecutive season, but they will need to win both remaining games and hope that the New York Rangers and Dallas Stars both lose their final games. Prior to a 6-4 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Bruins have only conceded nine goals in their last five on the road so they have been keeping things tight on the blue line. Only five teams have conceded fewer on the road this season than the Bruins, so they will enter the playoffs with big hopes again. With two games remaining this season, top scorer David Pastrnak is two goals away from 350 in his career and three from another 50-goal season.
Boston did the Caps a favor by beating the Penguins in their most recent game on Saturday, but now Washington needs to find a way of not falling themselves. They took advantage of the opportunities given to them when winning 4-2 over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, Sonny Milano netting their first two to set a new career-high of 15 for the season in just 47 games. Milano is a rare outlier in a team that has struggled to put the puck in the net this year. No team in the East has scored fewer than the Caps so the fact they are in a wildcard spot at this stage of the season is remarkable, especially as they are bottom half in goals conceded as well. Alex Ovechkin has found his stride in the second half of the season to get 30 goals to help lift the team to where they are.
