The Boston Bruins (37-18-15) currently hold the 1st wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. On Monday evening, they head to New Jersey to take on the Devils (33-31-2). The two met back in December in Boston, where the Bruins sent the Devils packing with a 4-1 loss.
The Devils are 4-2 in March and avoided a 3-game losing streak on Saturday. They defeated the LA Kings on Saturday in a high-scoring affair. After taking 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd period, they found themselves down 3-2 heading into the final frame. The Devils tied the game quickly and then took the lead midway through the third. The Kings answered right back to tie it up again, but Jack Hughes scored a power play goal to take back the league, and Timo Meier put things away with an empty netter.
Boston has been trading wins for losses this month for a 3-3 record. They are coming off an overtime win on the road in Washington yesterday afternoon. Charlie McAvoy scored twice in the win, and Jeremy Swayman stopped 25 of 27 shots. This meeting with New Jersey will be the 2nd game of a 3-game road trip for the Bruins.
With just over 15 games remaining, every point is important for the Bruins in securing a playoff spot. That type of pressure can motivate a team or make them collapse. Boston faithful are hoping for the motivation part to take over for their Bruins.
