Real Madrid visit Benfica on Matchday Eight of the Champions League, knowing that they just need to avoid defeat to virtually guarantee an automatic place in the last 16 of the competition.
Last week's 6-1 thumping of Monaco moved Real up to third in the standings. However, due to the tight nature of the league, there are a whopping 12 teams within three points of them. As such, Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa is likely to field a full strength starting eleven in Lisbon as he looks to ensure his side avoid dropping into the playoff positions.
Benfica's path to the next round is a lot trickier. To move into the top 24 of the league and secure a playoff place, they need to beat Madrid, plus hope that results elsewhere go in their favour. Given their mediocre recent form, that looks a tall order against one of the strongest teams in the competition.

Our Benfica Lisbon vs Real Madrid Prediction
This is a must win game for Benfica, but we don't think they have the quality to cause too many problems for a Madrid side that are enjoying another excellent Champions League campaign.
Central to Madrid's success in the competition has been the form of striker Kylian Mbappe, who has scored a remarkable 11 goals in just six matches so far this season.
If Mbappe can continue his sensational scoring run (and there's no reason why he won't), this should be a routine away win for Real.
Our prediction for Benfica vs Real Madrid is: Real Madrid (-1) to win.
