Ben Shelton of the United States will go head-to-head with Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France on Wednesday in the second round of the 2025 Boss Stuttgart Open.
Shelton, the No.3 seed in Stuttgart, received a bye into the second round and will face Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who rattled off three straight wins to reach this stage of the tournament. The American is fresh off a round-of-16 appearance at the 2025 French Open, losing to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in four sets 7-6(8) 6-3 4-6 6-4. Shelton is a career 6-7 on grass and also made it to the round-of-16 at last year’s Wimbledon Open.
Herbert has won 3 in a row at Stuttgart to arrange a second-round clash with Shelton. A qualifier in the event, Herbert scored two terrific wins in the qualification phase against Maximilian Marterer of Germany 6-1 6-1 and Li Tu of Australia 6-3 6-7(2) 6-1 to secure his spot in the main draw. In the first round, the Frenchman defeated ATP veteran Damir Dzumhur 6-4 3-0 ret. behind 17 points off the first serves and 7 aces.
