Ben Shelton of the United States guns for a place in the third round of the 2025 Rome Masters against Jaume Munar of Spain on Saturday.
After sterling run that propelled him to the finals of the BMW Munich Open, Shelton failed to deliver a fitting follow-up as he got booted out early by rising star Jakub Mensik 1-6, 4-6 in the third round of the 2025 Madrid Masters. Mensik denied Shelton any chance of scoring a service break as he completely overwhelmed the American by winning 93 percent of his first serves. With the loss, Shelton’s clay-court record this year dropped to 9-5.
Munar, meanwhile, put an end to his losing streak at three matches after outdueling Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile 4-6 6-2 7-5 in the first round. Prior to his win, Munar bombed out in the first round of the Madrid Open and Aix En Provence Challenger. Munar is 3-6 on clay this year and 11-11 overall.
