Ben Shelton of the United States will try to move closer to another Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance on Saturday as he goes head-to-head with the upset-minded Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in the third round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open.
Shelton, who reached the semifinal of the Australian Open and quarterfinals of the French Open this year, has a chance to move closer into the elite eight if he can score another win that would secure his entry into the fourth round of this grass-court Grand Slam. Shelton punched his ticket to the third round of the Wimbledon Open with a breezy win over Rinky Hijikata of Australia 6-2 7-5 6-4.
Fucsovics earned his fourth win in Wimbledon after outgunning Gael Monfils in a five-set banger 6-4 1-6 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4. A lucky loser entry, Fucsovics has now survived two consecutive marathon matches to reach the round of the 32 after he also outlasted Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3 6-7(5) 6-1 5-7 6-4 in the first round. In his win over Monfils, Fucsovics collected 71 points off his first serves and broke the Frenchman 5 times, which proved to be instrumental in his close win.
