Fresh off his first ATP 1000 title in Toronto, Ben Shelton has his sights set on another big title at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. Shelton kicks off his campaign in Cincy against Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina in the second round on Sunday.
Shelton has finally earned his first-ever ATP 1000-level title following a prolific campaign at the 2025 Canadian Open. The two-time Grand Slam semifinalist took advantage of the absence of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, racking up six consecutive wins to win the championship. Shelton has taken down a handful of quality opponents in the tourney, including fellow top-10 Alex De Minaur 6-3 6-4 and Taylor Fritz 6-4 6-3. In the championship match against Karen Khachanov, Shelton displayed poise under pressure to rally from a set down and beat Khachanov in a thrilling third-set showdown, 6-7(5) 6-4 7-6(3).
Carabelli earned his spot in the second round after downing former US Open finalist and world’s No.4 Kei Nishikori of Japan 7-5 6-3. Carabelli managed to win all but one service game against Nishikori, scoring 30 points off the first serves and drilling four aces. Carabelli also converted three key breakpoints, which allowed him to put the final nails in the coffin for the Japanese.

Our Ben Shelton vs Camilo Ugo Carabelli Prediction
Fearless Forecast: Ben Shelton stays hot to hammer a statement win over Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
Shelton isn’t finished yet. After his breakthrough title in Toronto, the No.6-ranked Shelton’s appetite for success will only get bigger. At the 2025 Cincinnati, he will attempt to accomplish something no American has done in decades: win the Canadian and Cincinnati Open championships back-to-back. Andy Roddick was the last American to pull off that rare feat when he was still at the peak of his power in 2003.
Shelton’s road to the title in Cincy will be a lot tougher than in Toronto because this tournament will now have Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner back in the fold. In a competition that has plenty of star power, Shelton will have to make a statement right from his first match to establish respect from his peers. And that is exactly what Shelton will be trying to accomplish in his match against Carabelli. Expect the American to take the fight into the Argentine right from the get-go as he goes for a clean and quick finish.
Our betting prediction for Ben Shelton vs. Camillo Ugo Carabelli: Ben Shelton -4.5 Games.
