At the WTA event in Ningbo, China on Monday, Belinda Bencic will be in action. The Swiss player, who has had a fine comeback season, will be up against Magda Linette, who is currently ranked inside the top 50 but who also arrives out of form. The Polish competitor couldn't get going in Beijing recently, losing to Maria Bouzkova in straight sets, while she endured the same fate in Wuhan a week later, losing to Antonia Ruzic, again going down in straight sets.
In contrast, Bencic, who is ranked as the 15th best WTA player right now, has shown decent form in China over the last few weeks. She first won a couple of matches in Beijing, before losing (in three sets) to world number three Coco Gauff. She built on that promising effort by beating Donna Vekic in Wuhan, before again having the misfortune of facing one of the best in the game, losing to Iga Swiatek. This is a much more realistic assignment.
