There's a rather meaty clash due to take place in Germany on Wednesday night, when Leverkusen and Newcastle will lock horns at BayArena. Despite being one of the strongest Bundesliga teams, the hosts have really felt the pinch in the UEFA Champions League this season, so much so that they are currently sitting in a league-phase position of 17th. Of course, all is not lost, with such a position providing a pathway to the knockout play-offs, but the Germans will be looking to improve, for sure. Sadly, they come into this game off the back of tasting defeat at the weekend.
In contrast, the visitors tasted yet more victory on Saturday, winning for the second time in three games. Then again, they may not arrive of German shores feeling to upbeat. After all, they did lose when they last played in the UCL, while it's not as if they've been keeping clean sheets for fun of late. An interesting game awaits.

I cannot lie and say that I've not been impressed with Harvey Barnes this season. The 27-year-old, who keeps it simple by using his pace and being direct, has been excellent for the Magpies, in all competitions, especially recently, while this is exactly the sort of counter-offensive game that he'll love.
Barnes has scored seven goals in all competitions this season, notching an average of 0.59 goals per 90 minutes, which really is hard to ignore. He's been one of the go-to offensive men for the Magpies over the last month or so and has been deadly on the break. Four of his goals have come in the UCL, so do not be surprised if he hurts a Leverkusen team that finds clean sheets hard to come by in big games.
